Should you get a DSLR?

October 24, 2009
Does using a DSLR camera guarantee better pictures?
Sorry, but no. It takes a lot of skill, experimentation, practice and experience to get really great photographs. A DSLR shooter without skill will get ass-kicked by a highly skilled shooter on a compact digital camera.
But can a DSLR help you take better photographs?
Yes.
1. It provides you flexibility to adjust more settings and play around with it. That way, you can take photographs to your liking.
2. You can use additional equipment with it that would help improve your shot.
3. It will motivate you to spend more time learning how to use it because you spent so much money with it. Ha!
Is it hip and cool to dangle a DSLR around your neck?
Screw that. Buy an expensive necklace instead. Trust me, you save yourself from a sore neck.
Should you get a DSLR?
Yes, but-
only if you’re ready to learn about how to use it;
only if you’re ready to spend for it;
only if you feel that somewhere inside you, photography rocks…
…okay, okay! Yeah, get a DSLR!

Yes.

1. It provides you flexibility to adjust more settings and play around with it. That way, you can take photographs to your liking.

2. You can use additional equipment with it that would help improve your shot. There’s lenses, lighting equipment, and filters to name a few- all available to help get certain effects you might want to achieve in your photos.

3. It will motivate you to spend more time learning how to use it because you spent so much money with it. Ha!

Screw that thought. Buy an expensive necklace instead. Trust me, you save yourself from a sore neck. But you know what? It’s pretty cool to carry a DSLR and be able to back it up with amazing photos using it.

Does owning a DSLR instanly make you a pro?

A professional photographer is a photographer who is paid for his/her photographer services. So owning a DSLR alone doesn’t make you a “pro”. It’s not the gear that makes you a pro.

But do professionals use DSLRs? Yes. But you know, there’s a few kickass pros who use compact cameras.

Should you get a DSLR?

Yes, but-

  • only if you’re ready to learn about how to use it. Because, seriously, there’s a LOT to learn.
  • only if you’re ready to spend for it and the amount you are going to spend is worth it. These stuff don’t go cheap in the market. You’ll see.
  • only if you feel that somewhere inside you, photography rocks and something you REALLY want to do…

…okay, okay! Yeah, get a DSLR!
